Carlos Alcaraz retained his Franch Open crown at Roland Garros in a titanic battle against Jannik Sinner in Paris.
The match was the longest French Open final in history lasting a staggering five hours and twenty-nine minutes. It was the first major final to be played between Alcaraz & Sinner and was the first Grand Slam final to feature two players born after the year 2000.
Sinner looked to be heading for a maiden Roland Garros title after winning the first two sets and having three championships points in the third. However, the World No.1 was unable to close the match and Alcaraz managed to fight back.
The young Spaniard levelled the contest at two sets-all and the prevailed in the final set winning a Championship deciding tiebreaker. Alcaraz has now won five Grand Slam finals out of five.
The marathon match was finally won by the Wimbledon Champion 4-6 6-7 (4-7) 6-4 7-6 (7-3) 7-6 (10-2).
