The 19-year-old becomes the second youngest player to win two Masters 1000 titles and the victory was his forth title this year. Alcaraz had an extremely impressive run to the final, beating his childhood idol Rafael Nadal and World No 1 Novak Djokovic and in the quarter final and semis.
The Spaniard has had a meteoric rise through the world rankings. This time last year he was ranked 120th in the world but after a string of strong performances he is now a career-high 6th. Alcaraz currently has the most wins on tour this season with 28, one more than Stefanos Tsitsipas. There is an argument that the teenager is the best player in the world right now with seven straight wins over top-10 players. Zverev was full of praise for his opponent after his final defeat and predicted that Alcaraz would become World No 1 in the future.
