Serbia & Germany through to Davis Cup semis as Great Britain miss out

ويمبلدون Champion Novak Djokovic won both his singles & doubles matches as Serbia battled past Kazakhstan 2-1 to secure their place in the semi finals of the Davis Cup.

Djokovic beat Alexander Bublik in straight sets 6-3 6-4 and needed to win to level the tie overall at 1-1. He then partnered Nikola Cacic in the doubles rubber match and beat Aleksandr Nedovyesov and Andrey Golubev 6-2 2-6 6-3 to progress into the semis. Serbia will now play Croatia in the last four.

Great Britain played their first Davis Cup quarter finals match for 7 years but were unable to progress any further after losing a close tie to Germany. British number two Dan Evans got GB off to a perfect start after he demolished Peter Gojowczyk 6-2 6-1. However, Cam Norrie’s defeat to Jan-Lennard Struff 7-6 (8-6) 3-6 6-2 meant the tie went down to a deciding doubles match. British pair Joe Salisbury & Neal Skupski were eventually beaten 7-6 (12-10) 7-6 (7-5) by Kevin Krawietz & Tim Puetz ending their campaign. The Britons will be rueing missed opportunities as they let four set points slip in the first set tie-break and then gave up a 5-0 lead in the second set.

Germany now face the Russian Tennis Federation in the semi-finals.
