Novak Djokovic was denied a 100th ATP title by Czech teenager Jakub Mensik in the Miami Open Final. The 19-year-old proved too strong for his childhood idol in sticky conditions in Florida and won the match 7-6 (7-4) 7-6 (7-4) to clinch his first ATP Tour trophy.
Mensik almost pulled out of the tournament before his first round match due to a knee injury. However, after receiving physiotherapy he was persuaded to remain in the competition. He went on to drop only two sets on his run to the final, which included an impressive victory against British No.1 Jack Draper.
Djokovic was aiming to become only the third man to win 100 singles titles in the Open era. The Serb veteran has not won an ATP event since 2023 but will be encouraged by reaching another final at the age of 37.
