Andrey Rublev beats Rune to claim Monte Carlo title

World No 6 Andrew Rublev beat Holger Rune in the final of the Monte Carlo Masters 5-7 6-2 7-5 to claim his first Masters 1000 title. Rublev was trailing 4-1 in the deciding set against his teenage opponent but rallied to secure victory.

World No 1 Novak Djokovic suffered a surprise early third round exit but in the absence of Carlos Alcaraz was assured to remain at the top of the rankings. The Wimbledon Champion will also be guaranteed to remain in the top spot next week because Alcaraz has 500 point to defend at the Barcelona Open. Djokovic can only drop 150 points at the event because he was runner up in 2022.

The Serbs continued status as World No 1 means he will extend his record further of the player to hold to position for the longest period. Djokovic has now been at the top of the ATP rankings for a staggering 383 weeks. The player closest to him is Roger Federer who is 73 weeks behind!
