UK: 020 3904 5599Wimbledon Champion Novak Djokovic has been granted a visa by the Australian immigration officials which will allow him to compete at the Australian Open in January. The tournament is the first Grand Slam of the calander year and starts on 16th January at Melbourne Park.
The Serb is a nine-time winner of the competition but last year was forced to pull out of the tournament after he was deported due to his Covid-19 vaccination status. Djokovic remains unvaccinated for Coronavirus which meant he was not able to enter Australia for the Grand Slam event. The episode meant he was banned from entering the country for three years.
However it now appears the former World No 1 is now able to return Down Under with Immigration Minister Andrew Giles overturning the ban.
Djokovic is currently one behind great rival Rafael Nadal in the all-time Grand Slam rankings with 21 majors. it would be a brave person to bet against him equalling the Spaniard’s record in Melbourne after he has been so dominant at the event in recent years.
He is currently playing at the ATP Finals in Turin which is the end of season tournament including the top 8 players in the world. Djokovic has cruised into the semi finals and will be eyeing a place in the final on Sunday.
