He will be looking for revenge against Jannik Sinner who knocked him out of the Australian Open in January.
There has been further disappointment for Rafael Nadal who made a late call to pull out of the tournament due to injury. Fans were hoping to see the 22-time Grand Slam Champion in action for the first time since January. However, the Spaniard has been forced to withdraw from the event due to further injury problems.
Two-time Wimbledon Champion Andy Murray produced his best tennis of the year so far by beating David Goffin in his first-round match. Murray looked sharp throughout and served well to win the contest in straight sets 6-3 6-2.
Emma Raducanu has confirmed she will be play at the event. The 2021 US Open Champion is still on a comeback trail after suffering numerous injuries in the past 18 months. She will be hoping to hit some better form in California with the French Open & Wimbledon Grandi Slam coming up in the next few months.
