Djokovic looking ominous as Murray & Raducanu suffer exits

Defending Wimbledon Champion Novak Djokovic breezed into the third round at the All England Club after demolishing Thanasi Kokkinakis in straight sets. The former World No 1 beat the Australian 6-1 6-4 6-2 to book a place in the last 16 where he will face fellow Serb Miomir Kecmanovic.

The 20-time Grand Slam champion has had a disjointed season so far after missing the Australian Open in January and then losing in the French Open quarter finals to Rafael Nadal. However, Djokovic looked to be rediscovering his best form on Centre Court yesterday after he cruised past Kokkinakis with some eye-catching tennis.

Elsewhere, British duo Andy Murray & Emma Raducanu both lost their second round matches. It is the earliest Wimbledon exit for two-time Champion Murray who lost to American John Isner 6-4 7-6 (7-4) 6-7 (3-7) 6-4. Isner was expected to pose a tough test for Murray after he reached the semi-finals in 2018. Murray has suffered significant injuries in recent years which have required surgery and at the age of 35 he may face the prospect of not having long left at the highest level.

Emma Raducanu struggled with the power and tenacity of her French opponent Caroline Garcia. The US Open champion eventually lost in straight sets 6-3 6-3. Raducanu has also struggled with injuries in recent weeks which has affected her preparation for Wimbledon but she would have been hoping for a better showing at SW19.

The tournament continues with 22-time Grand Slam Champion Rafael Nadal in action on Centre Court on Thursday.
