World No.1 & Defending Champion Aryna Sabalenka is into the Australian Open semi-finals. After surviving a scare in the second set, she beat Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova 6-2 2-6 6-3.
The victory means Sabalenka is only the second player in the last 15 years to reach three consecutive Australian Open semi-finals. The last woman to achieve this feat was Serena Williams between 2015-2017. Sabalenka is also aiming to become the first woman to win the Australian Open three years in a row since Martina Hingis between 1997-1999.
In the other quarter final tie, Paula Badosa became only the fourth Spanish player to reach a woman’s Grand Slam semi-finals. She beat third seed Coco Gauff in straight sets 7-5 6-4. The victory was an impressive performance by the Spaniard. Cauff came into the tournament as one of the favourites after winning the WTA Finals at the end of last season.
