World No.1 and defending Champion Jannik Sinner retained his Australian Open crown against Alexander Zverev in Melbourne. The Italian totally dominated the final against his German opponent winning the match 6-3 7-6 (7-4) 6-3.
The victory cements Sinner’s place as the world’s best player. An ongoing doping case has created a cloud over his recent achievements but he was able to block out these distractions to claim his third Grand Slam.
Zverev struggled to gain any momentum in the match and failed to create a single break point in the contest. He was also heckled by sections of the crowd over recent domestic abuse allocations.
The next Grand Slam will take place in Paris for the French Open in May. This will be followed by the Wimbledon Championships which start on 30th June.
