STORBRITANNIEN: 020 3904 5599The All England Lawn Tennis Club (AELTC) have confirmed that they will not allow players from Russia or Belarus to compete at the 2022 Wimbledon Championships due to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
This means current men’s Russian World No 2 Daniil Medvedev will not compete at SW19 this summer as well as woman’s world No 4 Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus.
The announcement has faced criticism from the governing bodies who has labelled the ruling as ‘unfair’. The current reigning Wimbledon Champion and World No 1 Novak Djokovic has also condemned the decision as ‘crazy’.
Currently the men’s body (ATP) & the woman’s body (WTA) allow players from Russian & Belarus to compete under neutral flags. However, the AELTC seem to have not concurred with this arrangement for the foreseeable future.
