US Open underway in New York

The final Grand Slam of 2024 has begun at Flushing Meadows in New York. Defending Champion Novak Djokovic will be seeking to retain his title after recently capturing an illusive Olympic gold medal in Paris.

Djokovic is bidding to win a record extending 25th major title and will be the oldest man to win a slam in the open era.

Wimbledon Champion Carlos Alcaraz will be hoping he can secure his 5th Grand Slam. After beating Djokovic at the All England Club in July, the young Spaniard will be feeling confident about his chances of winning a second US Open.

World No.1 Jannik Sinner will also be one of the favourites to challenge for glory. He was recently subject to a banned substance investigation but the Italian has been cleared of the charges.

In the women’s draw, defending champion Coco Gauff will be bidding to repeat her memorable victory last year.

2021 Champion Emma Raducanu will also be hoping to build on her respectable Wimbledon campaign in July.
