Valentin Vacherot won a unique final at the Shanghai Masters on Sunday. The Monégasque was playing his own cousin Arthur Rinderknech and the pair played out an absorbing contest. After losing the opening set Vacherot eventually proved too strong and won the match 4-6 6-3 6-3.
Both players has achieved big upsets in their respective semi-finals to set up the family clash. Vacherot was a qualifier and is ranked 204 in the world rankings but overcame a limping Novak Djokovic in straight sets. Meanwhile Rinderknech dumped out former US Open Champion Daniil Medvedev 4-6 6-2 6-4.
Vacherot was the lowest-ranked player to reach an ATP Masters 1000 final since it was introduced in 1990.
Elsewhere, Coco Gauff won her third WTA 1000 title at the Wuhan Open. She defeated fellow American Jessica Pegula 6-4 7-5 in the final. The World No.3 becomes the second American to win the competition since Venus Williams.
