Reigning Wimbledon Champion Novak Djokovic has been given a boost ahead of the 2022 Championships after the organisers at SW19 said unvaccinated Covid-19 players will be allowed to compete. The World No 1 was not able to play at the Australian Open in January because he had not received the vaccine and was eventually deported. His participation in other tournaments around the world has been uncertain since then. However, it appears the Serb will be able to defend the most prestigious crown in world tennis this summer after the All England Lawn Tennis Club confirmed Covid-19 vaccinations will not be mandatory this year.

Djokovic will be desperate to put the chaos of his Melbourne deportation behind him as he chases Rafael Nadal who currently leads him 21-20 in the all-time Grand Slam rankings. The next major tournament will take place next month in Paris on the clay at Roland Garros. Djokovic will also be the defending champion for this Grand Slam but ‘King of Clay’ Nadal will be determined to regain the title he has won a staggering 13 times.
