Alcaraz shocked by Zverev as teenager Yastremska reaches semis in Melbourne

Wimbledon Champion Carlos Alcaraz was knocked out of the Australian Open in Melbourne by Germany’s Alexander Zverev. The quarter-final tie finished at 01:20 local time when Zverev beat his Spanish counterpart 6-1 6-3 6-7 (2-6) 6-4 to reach the semi-finals.

Zverev will play Daniil Madvedev for a place in Sunday’s final on Friday. Defending Champion & World No.1 Novak Djokovic will play Italian fourth seed Jannik Sinner in the other semi-final match.

In the woman’s draw teenager Danyana Yastremska is bidding to become the second ever qualifier to claim a Grand Slam. Emma Raducanu was the first player to achieve this at the 2021 US Open. She will play China’s Zheng Qinwen for place in Saturday’s final.

Defending champion Aryna Sabalenka will play American star Coco Gauff in the other semi-final tie.
