Andy Murray Through at Indian Wells as Raducanu Suffers Exit

Former World No 1 Andy Murray beat Spanish youngster Carlos Alcaraz 5-7 6-3 6-2 to advance into the third round at Indian Wells in California. Murray stormed into a 3-0 lead before the highly rated Spaniard clawed his way back to claim the opening set.

Murray then produced a moment of some controversy as he served underarm for the first time in his career during the second and went on to level the match. The two-time Wimbledon champion broke Alcaraz twice in the decider to finally claim victory in the blazing Californian heat in a match which lasted just over three hours.

In the women’s draw US Open champion Emma Raducanu lost her first competitive match since claiming her first Grand Slam as she was beaten in straight sets by Aliaksandra Sasnovich 6-2 6-4. The 18-year-old will be hoping to bounce back quickly as she is due to play at the Kremlin Cup in Moscow next week.
