Alcaraz shocked by Dimitrov at the Shanghai Masters

Canada beat Australia in the final of the Davis Cup in Malaga to win the event for the first time in their history. They got off to a strong start as Denis Shapovalov beat Thanasi Kokkinakis in straight sets 6-2 6-4.

Wimbledon Champion Carlos Alcaraz suffered a shock defeat in the last 16 of the Shanghai Masters against Grigor Dimitrov. The top seed won the first set but was pegged back by his Bulgarian opponent who went on to win the match 5-7 6-2 6-4.

Beating World No 2 Alcaraz was the one of the biggest wins of Dimitrov’s career. He will now be looking to win his first ATP title since 2017. The 32-year-old will now face Chilean Nicolas Jarry in the quarter finals.

Alcaraz was hoping to finish the year as World No 1, however this latest result has put a dent in this ambition. Novak Djokovic currently holds the top rank position at the moment after winning three Grand Slams this year.
