Barty Confirms No1 Spot with Miami Glory

Defending champion Ashleigh Barty retained the Miami Open after Bianca Andreescu was forced to retire due to an ankle injury in their final match. In fairness the contest was all but won for top seed Barty with the score at 6-3 4-0 at the time of Andreescu’s withdrawal. Canadian Andreeescu won the 2019 US Open and was keen to make a statement in her first meeting against Barty. However, she has struggled with injuries in recent months and her fitness unfortunately caused her downfall in Miami’s final over the Easter weekend.

Barty’s victory in Miami cemented her place as World No1 after a brief period of dominance from Japanese star Naomi Osaka. It sets up an exciting news few months which includes the French Open & Wimbledon Championships.
