Brilliant Norrie comes back to beat Alcaraz in Rio Open

British No 1 Cameron Norrie came back from a set down to beat World No 2 Carlos Alcaraz in the final of the Rio Open 5-7 6-4 7-5. Norrie is renowned for his great fitness levels and showed incredible tenacity in an intense match against one of the best players in the world.

Only one week ago Alcaraz had beaten Norrie in the final of the Argentina Open in Buenos Aires. The Spaniard has recently retuned from a four month layoff due to injury and it was clear that he was struggling with his stamina in the latter stages of the contest. However, Norrie must be given credit for his persistence and tested the 19-year-old to his limits.

The tennis calendar will now turn to the Indian Wells tournament in California. The prestigious event is regarded at the ‘fifth major’ and the world’s best players will be hoping to go strong in the competition. Taylor Fritz is the defending men’s Champion after shocking Rafael Nadal in the 2022 final.
