Dan Evans sets up Nadal clash at Indian Wells

British number two Dan Evans produced a dominant display to beat Argentina’s Federico Coria 6-3 6-2 in the second round of the BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells. He will now face 21-time Grand Slam Champion Rafael Nadel in the third round. Nadal came through a tricky match against USA’s Sebastian Korda in the previous round 6-2 1-6 7-6 (7-3) but managed to keep is perfect record for 2022 intact. There were also wins for World No 1 Daniil Medvedev & defending champion Cameron Norrie.

It was a disappointing day for two-time Wimbledon Champion Andy Murray. He suffered a straight sets defeat to Alexander Bublik in the second round 7-6 (11-9) 6-3. Murray had won his two previous matches against Bublik but the Kazak proved too strong in California on Sunday.

Emma Raducanu also suffered a second round loss to Croatia’s Petra Martic. Raducanu was competing at the event for the first time and started well by winning the first set. However, Martic fought back in the second to force a decider. The British number one then surrendered two successive service games in the third set and eventually lost 7-6 4-6 5-7.
