Davis Cup glory for the Russian Tennis Federation

The Russian Tennis Federation claimed the most prestigious trophy in international tennis as Daniil Medvedev & Andrey Rublev both won their respective matches to secure the victory.

World number two Medvedev has had a strong end to the year after he won his maiden Grand Slam at the US Open in September. He described it as ‘the best weeks’ of his career. Rublev beat Borna Gojo 6-4 7-6 (7-5) in the first singles match before Medvedev sealed the victory with a 7-6 (9-7) 6-2 win over Marin Cilic.

The Russians were banned for competing under their national flag due to doping violations so played under their federation. They were the only team containing two players in the top 10 world rankings and were the pre-tournament favourites. It is also the first time a Russian team has won the event since 2006.
