Wimbledon Champion Novak Djokovic has confirmed he will play at the Australian Open after missing last year’s tournament due to issues surrounding his Covid-19 vaccination status. The 21-time Grand Slam Champion announced that he will play at the Adalaide International which is regarded as the warmup event for the Melbourne major.
Djokovic has won the Australian Open a staggering nine times and will be hoping to claim the title again which will bring him level with Rafael Nadal in the all-time Grand Slam rankings.
The Australian Open is the first Grand Slam of the calendar year and was won in 2022 by Nadal. Despite a strong start to the year, which also included winning the French Open, the Spaniard struggled with form and injuries. He has recently returned to the court and will be hoping to add to his major title haul in Melbourne.
