Emma Raducanu Sets Sights on Wimbledon After US Open Triumph

After shocking the world in New York at the US Open Emma Raducanu has said she would love to emulate her Grand Slam success at the Wimbledon Championships. The British teenager became the first ever qualifier to win a major tennis tournament at Flushing Meadows and became the new British No 1 in the process. While she has been keen to downplay her targets for further major honours, the 18-year-old has said her dream would be to win Wimbledon one day and told China Daily, “I’d say, if I were to pick one, then Wimbledon would probably be my choice”.

Raducanu is planning her return to competitive tennis after her triumph in New Yoark. The BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells is likely to be her first tournament as a Grand Slam champion which starts on October 6th. She revealed in an Instagram post that she is back in training and looking forward to getting back on the court.

The Indian Wells tournament is regarded as one of the biggest events on the WTA tour outside the Grand Slams and Raducanu is believed to be offered a wildcard into the main draw. The British teenager is expected to face a strong field which is likely to include world no 1 Ashleigh Barty and her US Open final opponent Leylah Fernandez.
