Great Britain reach David Cup quarter finals for the first time since 2014

Canada beat Australia in the final of the Davis Cup in Malaga to win the event for the first time in their history. They got off to a strong start as Denis Shapovalov beat Thanasi Kokkinakis in straight sets 6-2 6-4.

Joe Salisbury & Neal Skupski produced a classy display against their Czech opponents Jiri Vesely & Tomas Machac to win their rubber doubles match 6-4 6-2. It was a vital victory for Leon Smith’s team after Dan Evans was beaten by Tomas Machac before Cameron Norrie levelled things up with a gritty win over Jiri Lehecka.

Britain now progress into the quarter finals for the first time in 7 years and will play Germany in the last eight. The Germans will be without newly crowned ATP Finals champion Alexender Zverev but still managed to finish top of their group after beating Austria.
