ATP Finals underway in Turin as Djokovic secures end of year No.1 ranking

The end of season finale is underway in Turin as the world’s best eight players will battle against each other for the final tournament of 2023.

In his opening match on Sunday Novak Djokovic beat Holger Rune 7-6 (7-4) 6-7 (1-7) 6-3 to ensure he will end the year as World No.1 The victory extends the Serb’s winning streak to 19 consecutive matches with dates back to the Wimbledon final.

Djokovic will be the oldest year-ending World No.1 in history at the age of 36. He has had another incredible season winning three Grand Slams to extend his major haul to a record-extending 24 titles.

Wimbledon Champion Carlos Alcaraz was the main rival to Djokovic to replace him at the top of the world rankings. However, the young Spaniard has struggled with form recently and has been unable to match the relentless pace set by Djokovic in recent weeks.

The ATP Finals event will end on the 19th November at the Pala Alpitour area which Italy’s largest indoor arena.
