Nadal extends perfect run to claim Acapulco title in Mexico

21-time Grand Slam Champion Rafael Nadal produced another fine display in humid conditions in Mexico to beat Cameron Norrie in the final of the Mexican Open. The Spaniard first won the title in 2005 and has now won the event five times as he continues his fantastic start to 2022.

Nadal was side-lined for almost six months of 2021 due to a foot injury and he recently admitted he wondered if he would ever play competitive tennis again. The 35-year-old has managed to make an amazing comeback and has now won his third title of the year. He remains unbeaten in 2022 as he extends his winning run to 15 straight matches.

Briton’s Cameron Norrie will be encouraged that he made the final in Acapulco after his disappointing performance at the Australian Open in January. Tennis’ big stars will now turn their focus to the BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells which is due to begin next week. Norrie won the event in 2021 and will be hoping to use his display in Mexico as a springboard going into the ‘fifth major’.
