Emma Raducanu faces a race against time to be fit for the Australian Open after she was forced to pull out of the ASB Classic with an ankle injury.
The 20 year British number one was playing against Viktoria Kuzmova and breezed through the opening set winning the session 6-0. However, Kuzmova fought back in the second to level the match 5-7. In the decider Raducanu then rolled her ankle and was forced to retire only 11 days before the Australian Open.
Raducanu left the court in tears and is now a major doubt for the first Grand Slam of the year. The Brit blamed a slippery surface on the court which will not be welcomed by the event organisers.
