Jannik Sinner produced a dominating display against Grigor Dimitrov to win the Miami Open on Sunday. Dimitrov came into the final in confident mood after outclassing Carlos Alcaraz in the quarter finals. However, he could not cope with the class of Sinner and eventually lost the match 6-3 6-1.
The victory means Sinner moves ahead of Alcaraz to No.2 in the World rankings. It is also his third title of 2024 which includes the Australian Open he won in January. The surge of the 22-year-old Italian has been extremely impressive. His only loss this year has been in the semi finals of the Indian Wells tournament to the Wimbledon Champion Alcaraz.
The battle for the World No.1 spot is now close between current holder Novak Djokovic, Sinner & Alcaraz. As the sport heads into the clay-court season there is the potential all three could head into the Wimbledon Championships holding to the top position.
