Wimbledon announce Ukraine donation ahead of the 2023 Championships

The All England Club (AELTC) has announced it will donate more than £500,000 to the Ukraine relief fund after it reversed its decision to ban Russian & Belarussian players from the 2023 Championships.

Wimbledon organisers had banned players from the Russia & Belorussia from playing in the 2022 Championships in the wake of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. They were punished by this decision and had all ranking points removed from the tournament and also received a heavy fine.

In March Wimbledon reversed their decision and confirmed they would allow players from these respective countries to play this year. Russian & Belarussian competitors will have to sign a neutrality declaration and will not be allowed to display or represent flags from either country.

They have now announced that they will donate £1 for every ticket sold at this year’s Championships to the Ukraine relief which will equate to over £500,000.

They also confirmed they will invite 1,000 Ukrainian refugees to visit SW19 for the day during the Grand Slam. The Wimbledon 2023 Championships take place between 3rd-16th July.
