Alcaraz sets up semi final with Sinner as Djokovic withdraws from French Open

Wimbledon Champion Carlos Alcaraz secured an impressive win against Stefanos Tsitsipas to reach the semi-finals of the French Open. The 21-year-old Spaniard made light work of the 2021 runner up winning in straight sets 6-3 7-6 (7-3) 6-4.

The victory over Tsitsipas sets up an intriguing semi-final against incoming World No.1 Jannik Sinner. Italian Sinner swept aside 10th seed Grigor Dimitrov in straight set to reach the last four.

Sinner found out after his match with Dimitrov that he will be instated as World No.1 after the tournament. Defending Champion Novak Djokovic was forced to withdraw from Roland Garros due to a knee injury. He will therefore be unable to defend his points he earned last year after winning the Grand Slam which will bump Sinner up to the top slot.

Djokovic remains a doubt for the Wimbledon Championships which start on Monday 1st July. The 7-time Wimbledon Champion will be desperate to regain his fitness ahead of the Grand Slam at SW19.
