Alexander Zverev wins ATP Finals to complete amazing year

World No 3 Alexander Zverev produced a dominant performance to beat Dannill Medvadev 6-4 6-4 in the final of the ATP Finals on Sunday. The German has enjoyed a very successful 2021 after winning Olympic Gold in Tokyo in the summer and finishes the year with more wins on tour than any other player.

Zverev eliminated Wimbledon Champion & World No 1 Novak Djokovic in the semis which was a rematch of the Olympic Final. It is possible the 24-year-old could replace Djokovic at the top of the world rankings at some point in 2022 should his impressive form continue into next year. After winning the prestigious ATP Final event, Zverev will now be looking to add a maiden Grand Slam to his trophy cabinet. He came closest to securing a major title last year at the US Open before losing an epic final against Dominic Theim.

With the Australian Open due to begin in January 2022 the Zverev will be quietly confident he can secure his first elusive Grand Slam in Melbourne.
