Cam Norrie helps Britain into David Cup finals

British No 1 Cameron Norrie secured a straight sets victory of Colombia’s Nicolas Meja to send Great Britain into the Davis Cup Finals group stage. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Norrie playing against the tournament hosts.

The match against Meja was played at an altitude of over 2,500 meters above sea level and was a tense encounter. In the end Norrie was able to beat the home player 6-4 6-4 to put Britain in an unassailable lead 3-1 in Bogta.

Norrie’s win meant Dan Evans did not need to play the final his final rubber match against Nicolas Barrientos. Evans won his doubles match earlier in the day alongside compatriot Neal Skupski. It was the first time Evans had played a doubles match and he suggested prior to the event that he felt insulted not to be selected for a singles match.

Norrie had an encouraging season in 2022 reaching the Wimbledon.

The reward for winning the tie will be an appearance in the finals group stage in September. This matches will take place across four venues and will include last year’s Winners Canada and runner’s up Australia.
