Cameron Norrie Wins Prestigious Indian Wells Title

Canada beat Australia in the final of the Davis Cup in Malaga to win the event for the first time in their history. They got off to a strong start as Denis Shapovalov beat Thanasi Kokkinakis in straight sets 6-2 6-4.

26-year-old Cameron Norrie has made history by becoming the first British tennis player to win the BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells in California.

Norrie showed great character in Sunday’s final as he came back from losing the first set and losing 3-1 in the second before claiming the victory 3-6 6-4 6-1. His preparations before the game we not exactly ideal when amazingly he lost his footwear! The left hander claimed he was looking ‘all day’ for his lost trainers before having to settle for a replacement pair just moments before his biggest final of this career.

Norrie’s victory in the prestigious ‘fifth major’ at Indian Wells has catapulted him to a career high of 16th in the world and he will also become the new British number one. In summary Norrie will look back at 2021 and consider it a successful year in which he reached six finals – an achievement matched only by World No 1 Novak Djokovic!
