Carlos Alcaraz wins Miami Open

18-year-old Carol Alcaraz won his first 1000 title at the Miami Open. The Spaniard beat Norway’s Casper Ruud 7-5 6-4 to become the youngest ever winner of the competition. Alcaraz has been in impressive form recently and has rocketed up the world rankings. His victory in Maimi has propelled him to a career high of number 11 in the world.

Alcaraz is also the first Spaniard to win the Miami Open and revealed that he received a call from the King of Spain Felipe VI after his victory.

In the woman’s draw, Iga Swiatek became the woman’s world number one after she dismantled Naomi Osaka 6-4 6-0. Swiatek rose to stardom last year when she won her maiden Grand Slam at the French Open and will be delighted to have claimed the number one spot. She replaces Ash Barty who announced her shock retirement two weeks ago.

Swiatek was looking for revenge in the Miami final after Osaka beat her in Toronto back in 2019 in a very entertaining match. Since then Swiatek has improved significantly and proved too strong for the four time Grand Slam champion. The victory extends her record to an impressive 17 game unbeaten run.
