Osaka reaches Miami semis

Former World No 1 Naomi Osaka continued her impressive form at the Miami Open as she beat American Danielle Collins 6-2 6-1 to book a place in the semi-final. The four-time Grand Slam Champion has yet to drop a set in the tournament and managed to dispatch Collins after just an hour on court. The Japanese star will now play Olympic champion Belinda Bencic in the last four. Bencic will pose a stern test for Osaka who has also not lost a set so far.

In the men’s draw Daniil Medvedev is one win away from regaining the World No 1 spot after he beat American Jenson Brooksby to reach the quarter finals. The absence of Novak Djokovic in Miami leave the door open for Medvedev to claim back the no 1 ranking he lost just before the tournament. The Russian will face Poland’s Hubert Hurkacz for place in the semis.

There was disappointment for British number one Cameron Norrie after he struggled with a calf injury during his match with Casper Rudd. Norrie suffered a straight sets defeat to the sixth seed 6-3 6-4.

Elsewhere, 18-year-old Carlos Alcaraz continued to impress on tour and beat world number five Stefanos Tsitsipas.
