Djokovic & Barty Reign Supreme at Wimbledon in Front of Capacity Crowds

Novak Djokovic & Ashleigh Barty cemented their places as the world’s best tennis players in their respective men’s & ladies’ finals at Wimbledon 2021.

Djokovic claimed his sixth Wimbledon title but perhaps more importantly his 20th Grand Slam to draw level with greats Roger Federer & Rafael Nadal. The Serb was facing the powerful Matteo Berrettini from Italy who recovered from a nervous start to claim the first set tie-breaker. However, Djokovic displayed his renowned grit and perseverance by storming back to eventually claim the title 6-7 6-4 6-4 6-3.

Barty’s victory in the women’s draw was her first title at SW19 and becomes Australia’s first Wimbledon champion for 41 years. After winning the opening set against Karolina Pliskova, Barty had chance to serve out victory in the 12th game of the second set but surprisingly lost her service game and Pliskova went onto to win the set in a tie-breaker. The Australian rallied in the deciding set by breaking Pliskova early and went on to seal her second grand slam 6-3 6-7 (4-7) 6-3.

Both finals were played in front of capacity crowds and the event will be viewed as a major success as the UK emerges from the Coronavirus pandemic. Wimbledon look set to welcome back supporters for a huge Championships in 2022.
