Federer to team up with Nadal for his final match

Team Europe captain Bjorn Borg has confirmed that Roger Federer will play his last competitive tennis match alongside his great rival Rafael Nadal at the Laver Cup on Friday.

This year will be the fourth edition of the ‘Ryder Cup style’ event. Competitors are usually required to play at least one match on either Friday & Saturday and once again on Sunday, the final day. However, due to recent injury issues, Federer asked Borg if he would be able to play on the Friday only. The eight-time Wimbledon Champion also requested to play in the doubles match with his long-time foe and friend Rafael Nadal. It would seem Borg has granted his wish!

Throughout their careers Federer & Nadal have been synonymous with each other. They have battled for the most prestigious trophies in the sport for almost 20 years. Between them they have won a staggering 42 Grand Slams!

Despite the intense rivalry, they have formed a great friendship and were both instrumental in forming the Laver Cup when it started in 2017. It is perhaps a perfectly fitting end to Federer’s career to play alongside Nadal for his final match.
