Team World win Laver Cup as Federer bows out

Team World came from behind to beat Team Europe on the final day of the Laver Cup on Sunday. They were trailing 8-4 at the beginning of the day but staged an impressive string of matches to claim the trophy.

On Friday, Roger Federer lost his last competitive match when he partnered great rival and friend Rafael Nadal in the doubles. Despite winning the first set the veterans were pegged back by the American pairing of Jack Sock & Frances Tiafoe and eventually lost the match 6-4 7-6 11-9.

Felix Auger-Aliassime enjoyed a remarkable Sunday after he teamed up with Jack Sock to beat Andy Murray & Matteo Berrettini in the opening doubles match. He followed this by beating 21-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic is straight sets in their singles match.

Frances Tiafoe then came back against Stefanos Tsitsipas to win his match after losing the first set 1-6 7-6 10-8. Tiafoe’s victory meant John McEnroe’s team reached the magic 13-point mark and secured Team World their maiden Laver Cup.

The Laver Cup returns in 2023 in Vancouver at Rogers Arena from September 22-24.
