Wimbledon Champion Novak Djokovic beat Sebastian Korda in the final of the Adelaide International to extend his winning run in Australia to 34 matches. He recovered from losing the first set to win the match 6-7 (8-10) 7-6 (7-3) 6-4.
The victory was the Serb’s 92nd ATP Singles title, which brings him level in the all-time standings with Rafael Nadal. Only Roger Federer, Ivan Landl & Jimmy Connors have won more ATP titles. The event was Djokovic’s first tournament in Australia since being deported from the country last year ahead of the 2022 Australian Open. Due to his Covid vaccination status the former World No 1 was forced to leave the country and therefore missed the Grand Slam.
The Australian Open starts next week and Djokovic has been a dominant force ‘Down Under’ in recent years. He has won the Melbourne event a staggering nine times and victory number 10 would bring him level with Rafael Nadal with 22 Grand Slams.
Nadal is the reigning Champion at the Australian Open after winning the event in 2022. The tournament starts Monday 16th January.
