Nadal confirms return next week

22-time Grand Slam Champion Rafael Nadal will return to action next week at the Paris Masters. The veteran Spaniard has only made one appearance at the Laver Cup last month since he was knocked out of the US Open in August.

His participation at the Laver Cup was essentially a cameo role to support his great rival and friend Roger Federer in his final match before retiring. Nadal & Federer teamed up in a doubles match in the Friday evening session but were beaten by American pair Jack Sock & Frances Tiafoe.

Nadal started 2022 in fine form winning the first Grand Slam of the year at the Australian Open and then followed up with a staggering 14th French Open title in Paris. Unfortunately, he has since struggled with injuries and had to withdraw from his semi-final match at Wimbledon against Nick Kyrgios because he was not fit enough to compete.

After this defeat in New York to Frances Tiafoe it was suggested Nadal may not play competitive tennis again in 2022. However, the two-time Wimbledon Champion is now set to play at the Paris Masters which starts this weekend and also the season ending ATP finals in Turin. Despite his illustrious career, Nadal is yet win either of these tournaments so he will be hoping to add at least on these titles to his trophy cabinet!
