2021 US Open Champion Emma Raducanu has been chosen to lead team Great Britain at the Billie Jean King Cup Finals. The event is due to start next month in Glasgow and will consist of 12 teams who will be competing in four groups of three. The winners of each group will progress to the semi-finals.
It had been uncertain whether the 19-year-old would compete in the competition due to recent injury concerns. The British No 1 recently pulled out of the Transylvania Open due to a wrist injury and has also had problems with blisters on her hands this season. Nevertheless, Raducanu seems intend on competing alongside fellow Brits Heather Watson, Harriet Dart & Katie Boulter.
The Billie Jean Cup is essentially the ladies’ version of the Davis Cup in the men’s game. It allows the top tennis players to represent their countries in a team event.
Team GB will start their campaign against Kazakhstan & Spain in November at the Emirates Arena in Glasgow.
