Djokovic claims first title since Wimbledon

Wimbledon Champion Novak Djokovic has won his first title since July after beating Marin Cilic at the Tel Aviv Open. The 21-time Grand Slam Champion produced a dominant display in the final to win the match 6-3 6-4 and secure the trophy. His victory also means he is the first man to win tournaments on all three surfaces this season.

The Serb World No 7 played in the Laver Cup last weekend which saw his long-time rival Roger Federer retire from the sport. This was his first appearance on court since his triumph at the All England Club back in the summer.

Djokovic was unable to play at the US Open Grand Slam in August & September due to American travel restrictions. He remains unvaccinated against Covid-19 and is therefore not permitted to enter the country.

Next up is the Astana Open in Kazakhstan. World No 1 Carlos Alcaraz has confirmed he will compete in the tournament which looks to include a strong field. Djokovic is due to play as well as 2021 US Open Champion Daniil Medvedev.
