Rafa reigns supreme in Paris again

Rafael Nadal claimed a record extending 14th French Open title on Sunday beating Casper Ruud 6-3 6-3 6-0 in Paris. The King of Clay was looking to regain the title after losing in the semi finals last year to Novak Djokovic. Nadal had been struggling with injuries coming into the tournament but overcame his fitness struggles to secure his second Grand Slam of 2022.

The victory at Roland Garros was also Nadal’s 22nd Grand Slam title. This means he is now two ahead of great rivals Novak Djokovic & Roger Federer in the all-time major rankings.

The next Grand Slam is on the grass of Wimbledon later this month. After his victory in Paris Nadal suggested he may play at SW19 for first time since 2019. However, he did stress that he would not compete if he needed to have injections in his foot to combat his ongoing injury issue. The Spaniard require the injections in Paris but he has ruled this out for Wimbledon.
