Dan Evans wins Citi Open in Washington

British No 2 Dan Evans won the biggest title of his career on Sunday by beating Dutchman Tallon Griekspoor in straight sets 7-5 6-3.

Evans has not won an event since the 2021 in Melbourne and was coming off a seven match losing streak entering the competition. His win makes him the first Brit to win a title in the US capital since Tim Henman in 2003. It also catapulted him nice places to No 21 in the ATP rankings.

Evans will be next on court at the National Bank Open in Toronto. He will be close to breaking into the world’s top 20 players. However, it is possible he could meet British No 1 Cameron Norrie in the second round.
