Federer Returns to Competitive Tennis – Insists he Will be ‘100% for Wimbledon’

He has already cemented his status as one of the greatest tennis players of all time but after a 14 month absence from the court Roger Federer will consider his return at this week’s Qatar Open as a big moment as he enters the twilight of his illustrious career. The former world no 1 has required operations on his right knee due to pain and swelling but insists he is now ready to compete again and could potentially play Britain’s Dan Evans in Doha.

The 20-time Grand Slam champion has also signalled his intentions to play at Wimbledon 2021 and stated, “by Wimbledon I’m going to be 100% and that’s when the season start for me.” The king of SW19 will be looking to make an emotional return to the grass in the summer as there is increasing optimism that the Championships will take place with crowds this year. As he approaches his 40th birthday it is hard to predict how many more years the Swiss great will grace the sport of tennis but we certainly wish him a successful return to full fitness ahead of his comeback.
