Murray through in New York

Three-time Grand Slam Champion Andy Murray is through to the second round of the US Open in New York. The former World No 1 beat Corentin Moutet in straight sets in his 200th Grand Slam match of his incredible career.

The two-time Wimbledon Champion claimed after the victory that he is playing the best tennis since 2017 when he was at the pinnacle of the sport. He will play Bulgaria’s Grigor Dimitrov in the second round.

Murray will be joined by fellow Brits Cameron Norrie & Dan Evans in the second round as it was a good start for the British contingent in New York. Katie Boulter & Jodie Burrage also advanced in the woman’s draw.

Defending Champion Carlos Alcaraz had a straight forward opening match after his opponent Dominik Koepfer was forced to retire. The Spaniard was in total control of the contest leading 6-2 3-2.

Alcaraz came onto court sporting a sleeveless t-shirt which drew comparisons to his hero and fellow countryman Rafael Nadal. Nadal wore a similar outfit when he won his US Open crown in 2019. Alcaraz admitted after his match that his attire was inspired by his Spanish compatriot.
