22-time Grand Slam Champion Rafael Nadal enjoyed a winning return to the court at the Barcelona Open on Tuesday. In his first match since January, Nadal beat Italian Flavio Cobolli in straight sets in their first-round match 6-2 6-3.
Nadal has reiterated his intention to retire this season after insisting 2024 will be his last year in the sport. The ‘King of Clay’ hopes to have a final swansong at the French Open later this year, where he is an unprecedented 14-time champion.
The Olympics is also being held in Paris this year and the tennis event will be played at Roland Garos. Nadal has hinted that he would like to play in the event if his body allows him to compete.
The veteran Spaniard will turn 38 this year and was unable to play at Wimbledon last year due to injury. Fans will be hoping to see him on the grass of SW19 one last time before he retires.
