Djokovic & Gauff rule in New York!

Canada beat Australia in the final of the Davis Cup in Malaga to win the event for the first time in their history. They got off to a strong start as Denis Shapovalov beat Thanasi Kokkinakis in straight sets 6-2 6-4.

Ageless Novak Djokovic won a record extending 24th Grand Slam title in New York. The 36-year-old beat Daniil Medvedev 6-3 7-6 6-3 to claim his fourth US Open crown. Despite winning in straight sets, the Serb was forced to work hard for his victory which included a marathon 104-minute second set.

Djokovic now becomes the oldest US Open champion in the open era. He also extends his record as World No 1 for 390 weeks. He is now the first man to have won three Grand Slams in a year on four separate occasions.

In the woman’s draw, home favourite Cocoa Gauff claimed her maiden Grand Slam beating Aryna Sabalenka. The 19-year-old American came back from losing the first set to emerge victorious 2-6 6-3 6-2.

The American will now rise to no 3 in the world rankings – a career high.

As the final Grand Slam of the year draws to a close all eyes will be on the Australian Open which starts in January.
