Machac ends Murray’s Miami dream in dramatic contest

Former World No.1 Andy Murray was involved in another dramatic encounter at the Miami Open against Tomas Machac. Murray won the opening set but was pegged back by Machac who levelled the contest in the second. Two-time Wimbledon Champion Murray eventually lost in three sets against his Czech opponent 5-7 7-5 7-6 (7-5).

Murray suffered an ankle injury in the third set which required treatment from the physio. He also vented his frustration at the umpire and was visibly annoyed with ‘movement’ in the crowd.  The injury to his ankle could be a cause for concern as the season enters a busy period of big tournaments.

Depending on how serious the injury is, Murray could face the prospect of missing the French Open and even the Wimbledon Championships if he forced to have a long lay-off.

Fellow Brit Cameron Norrie also suffered defeat at the Miami Open to third seed Daniil Medvedev. The British No.1 was blown away in just 81 minutes 7-5 6-1 by the Russian.
